THE TRAINING AND PLACEMENT OF VOCATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN ETHIOPIA
Abstract
The paper begins with an explanation of the nature and objectives of vocational education and the variations of offerings in the vocatiunal edllcation programs. In connection with this some guiding principles as to what the suI up of vocational education should be are presented. As a prelude to the examining q[ the training and placement of vocational education teachers in the vocational sch()ols. the historical developments of both vocational education programs in the schools and the teacher education programs in universities (colleges) are discussed. The historical development reviewed, the training and placement of the teachers of business, home
economics and industrial education in the country we assessed. The evalualion of the training of teachers is based on 586 respondents" educational background and their training in the university !college and their job placement immediately ((per they graduated Whether they had supporting services while they were 'in the leaching assignment is also taken into account. The purpose of the paper is to suggest \ vays and means for sound training and placement of vocational teachers. Recommendat iOl1s are finally given based on the findings.
