IS ABILITY GROUPING A THREAT TO PUPil'S SELF CONCEPT?

Abstract

The socialist system advocates "equality of opportunity" to be the governing principle,in all walks of life.
NeedLess to say,provision for the degree of Learning opportunity at the classroom Level must be assessed vis-a-vis this important principle. Each Learner is entitled to equality of educational opportunity . This is the Learner's prerogative rather than a favor rendered to him/her. The provisions for individual differences existing among Learners, the type of conducive environment: social, physical, and the type of follow ups, etc  are instrumentaL in the realization of this vital principle.In turn, its realization ensures the actualization of Learners's potentialities, the development of their self confidence  - requisite states of productive and contributing members of society.This article attempts to touch practices that fail to facilitate or abuse the application of the principle.
