Author Guidelines

Scope

Research manuscripts in language, literature, natural language processing, lexicography, linguistics, socio-linguistics, folklore, social anthropology, terminology, translation, philology, music and other related fields are considered for publication in ZENA-LISSAN. Submission of a manuscript to the journal must be accompanied by a letter stating that no similar paper has been or will be submitted for publication elsewhere.

Style, Format and Page

Manuscripts should be written in English or Amharic and consecutively paged. Manuscripts should not exceed 25 pages (double spaced, font size 12, Times New Roman or Nyala for Ethiopic alphabet), including tables, figures and illustrations. Manuscripts should be typed on good quality white A4 paper with the margins of 1.7 on all sides. Footnotes shall be in Times New Roman: font size 10 for English and font size 9 for Amharic.

Text of the Manuscript

The first page should contain the full title of the manuscript, the name(s) of the author(s) including address(es) and the institution(s) in which the research was carried out. If more than one authors are involved, the author to whom all correspondence will be addressed should be indicated by an asterisk. The first page should also contain the abstract which should not exceed 250 words. Key words (Not more than five and ordered alphabetically) may be written next to the abstract in a separate line. The general organization of a research article is expected to begin with brief introduction and description of the problem. Then follow objective(s) of the research. The sections afterwards can cover succinct literatures, methodology, results and discussion. Finally, references will be listed. If any, abbreviations and/or acronyms should be put under the introduction in a separate paragraph. The research article should be submitted to the managing editor’s office in hard copy or soft copy via the email address.

Research manuscripts to be submitted to ZENA-LISSAN should fall under the following categories:

Research articles

Report of original research in any branches of languages and cultures will be considered for publication.

Book review

A critical evaluation of recently published books in the aforementioned fields under the heading-Scope- will be published in the ZENA-LISSAN.

Citation and Referencing

The 6^th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) style guide should be used for citation and referencing of the manuscripts to be submitted to ZENA-LISSAN.

Copyright Notice

Copyright for the content of articles is retained by author. However, the publisher (the Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures-AELC) retains copyright on the form of the publication, and reprinting of the journal in hard copy shall not be allowed unless prior permission is given by AELC. Authors can publish any article in any form upon acknowledgement that it was earlier published in ZENA-LISSAN. When referring to the article in ZENA-LISSAN, the journal’s name, the author’s name, the volume number, and the page numbers of the article shall be stated. Users of hard and soft copies can use and reuse all items published in ZENA-LISSAN for non-commercial and academic purposes without, however, altering the original publication.
